Complement is looking to democratize software, making tech more available and approachable to everyone. John Barker wanted a brand and name for this new venture he was planning to start.
During discovery, Barker explained the concept of two's complement - a way to represent binary integers on a computer. This, plus the idea to democratize software, eventually led to the name Complement, a friend in software if you will.
I referenced two's complement in the logo as a sort of easter egg and wrote a manifesto to drive out the rest of the material for the brand. Then I designed abstract animations and visuals to accompany this manifesto, which had became the pillar for the brand.
